COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in History at the University of Regina is a 120-credit-hour program that provides a comprehensive understanding of historical developments across different regions and time periods while building strong analytical and research skills. The major requires 42 credit hours, beginning with one 100-level HIST course and an additional 100- or 200-level course, followed by six 200-level HIST courses that develop foundational knowledge of historical themes and methods. Students then complete five 300- or 400-level HIST courses, including one mandatory 400-level course, allowing for advanced study and specialization in selected areas; approved Indigenous studies courses may also count toward requirements. A minimum 65% major GPA is required. In addition to the major, students complete 27 credit hours of Arts Core Requirements, including ENGL 100 and INDG 100, as well as courses in logical reasoning, humanities, social sciences, Indigenous knowledge, media and performance, and science, ensuring a well-rounded interdisciplinary education. Language proficiency is developed through two courses in the same additional language. The program also includes 51 credit hours of open electives, offering flexibility to explore other interests or complementary disciplines. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in education, research, public service, and cultural sectors, as well as for further academic and professional studies.
