COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of Regina is a 120-credit-hour program that combines geographic knowledge, environmental understanding, and a broad liberal arts education. The major requirements include foundational courses such as GES 120, GES 121, and GES 200, followed by three additional 200-level GES courses to build intermediate knowledge in geography and environmental systems. Students then complete six 300- or 400-level GES courses along with one additional 400-level course and three further GES electives, allowing specialization in human geography, physical geography, or environmental studies. The program ensures strong analytical and research skills while focusing on human–environment interactions and spatial understanding. In addition to the major, students complete Arts Core Requirements that include ENGL 100 for writing skills, INDG 100 for Indigenous studies, and courses in logical and numerical reasoning such as mathematics, statistics, or philosophy. Students also take courses in humanities, social sciences, Indigenous knowledge, media and arts, and natural sciences, ensuring a well-rounded education. Language study is also required through two courses in the same additional language, enhancing communication and global awareness. Finally, students complete 48 credits of open electives, giving flexibility to explore other interests. Overall, the program builds strong critical thinking, research, and interdisciplinary skills, preparing graduates for careers in environmental planning, research, public policy, and sustainability-related fields.
