COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies at the University of Regina is a 120-credit-hour undergraduate program that combines film analysis, media theory, and production training with a broad liberal arts education. The program begins with MAP 001 Critical Competencies and includes communication in writing requirements (6 credit hours) through courses such as ACAD 100, ENGL 100, or ENGL 110. Students also complete foundational study in natural and social sciences (6 credit hours) across disciplines such as economics, psychology, sociology, geography, political science, science, or mathematics. A further 9 credit hours in Culture and Society include MAP 202 or MAP 209 and additional courses from areas such as anthropology, history, Indigenous studies, languages, literature, philosophy, and religious studies. Students also take 3 credit hours in research skills and methodologies, choosing from statistics, computer science, psychology, or related analytical courses. Within the major, students complete 36 credit hours in Film Studies, starting with FILM 100, followed by production courses such as FILM 200, 201, 203, 205, or 208, and additional core courses like FILM 345 and FILM 348. They also take advanced film or creative technology electives. Outside the major, students complete 12 MAP-related credit hours and 39 open electives, allowing academic flexibility. Overall, the program develops strong analytical, research, and production skills, preparing students for careers in media, film, and cultural industries.
