ABOUT UNIVERSITY

The University of Regina, located in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, is a public, non-denominational institution that traces its roots to Regina College, founded in 1911 by the Methodist Church of Canada as a private denominational high school. It became a junior college affiliated with the University of Saskatchewan in 1925 and was fully ceded to the university in 1934. In 1961, it attained degree-granting status as the University of Saskatchewan, Regina Campus, and became an autonomous university in 1974. The university has over 15,000 full- and part-time students, with record enrolment in 2023—25% of whom were international students. Known for its experiential learning model, the university offers co-op education, internships, and the UR Guarantee Program, which supports students in achieving career goals post-graduation. The original Regina College campus was located on College Avenue, with buildings designed by architect James Henry Puntin, including the notable Darke Hall. The university continues to emphasize social justice, accessibility, and practical education, maintaining strong partnerships with government departments, provincial crown corporations, and private companies. It shares its campus and some facilities with the University of Saskatchewan in College Avenue’s educational precinct. The university's governance follows the University of Toronto’s bicameral model with a senate and board of governors.
