COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Education (MEd) program at UPEI offers two options: thesis-based and course-based, both designed to develop leadership skills in education. The thesis-based option requires five compulsory courses including Introduction to Research Methods, Theories of Research and Learning, Educational Leadership, Critical Pedagogy, and one research design course from Quantitative, Qualitative, Action Research, Learning Leadership, or Program Evaluation. Students must also complete one elective course from a diverse list covering topics like Inclusive Education, Educational Leadership, Global Education, and 21st Century Teaching. The thesis itself accounts for four course equivalents and provides an opportunity for in-depth research. The course-based option requires seven compulsory courses including core research and leadership subjects, plus two additional courses chosen from research design and educational leadership or global education areas. Additionally, students complete three elective courses from a wide range of topics such as Assessment for Learning Challenges, Change Leadership, Technology in Learning, and Workplace Learning. Both options emphasize critical pedagogy, curriculum leadership, and research skills to prepare educators for advanced leadership roles. The flexibility of the program allows students to tailor their learning to their professional goals while fostering scholarship and practical leadership skills essential for educational innovation and impact.
