COURSE CURRICULUM

The Thesis Stream (MAHSR-T) of the Master of Applied Health Services Research program offers a comprehensive and research-intensive curriculum for students committed to advancing health services through scholarly inquiry. The program requires completion of three core courses—AHS 6000 (Introduction to Health Services Research), AHS 6004 (Determinants of Health: Healthy Public Policy), and either AHS 6008 (Advanced Qualitative Methods) or AHS 6009 (Advanced Quantitative Methods)—along with a major research thesis (AHS 6010). In addition to these core components, students select two elective courses from a diverse list, including options such as Canadian Health System, Policy and Decision Making, Knowledge Transfer, Indigenous Health, Big Data Analytics, and others, allowing them to tailor their studies to specific interests within the health services field. The program also includes participation in one themed workshop and attendance at approximately 12 seminars held throughout the duration of the program. A minimum of two semesters of full-time, on-campus study at the University of Prince Edward Island is mandatory, ensuring immersive academic engagement. Furthermore, international students must conduct their thesis research in person at UPEI under the supervision of a UPEI faculty member. This rigorous structure ensures graduates are well-prepared for impactful careers in health research and policy.
