COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sustainable Design Engineering program at UPEI follows a recommended course sequence to help students progressively develop their skills. Core design clinic courses must be taken in order to build hands-on experience. The Community Design Program includes Engineering 1210 (Engineering Communications) and Engineering 1220 (Engineering Analysis). The Junior Design Clinic features Engineering 2210 (Engineering Projects I) and Engineering 2220 (Engineering Projects II). The Senior Design Clinics involve four courses: Engineering 3710 and 3720 (Project-Based Professional Practice I & II) and Engineering 4710 and 4720 (Project-Based Professional Practice III & IV).Students also complete foundational engineering courses such as Mechanics, Materials Science, Computer Programming, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Electric Circuits, Digital Logic, and Systems Engineering. Mathematics courses include Single Variable Calculus I & II, Linear Algebra, Multivariable Calculus, and Differential Equations. Additional courses include Chemistry 1110 (General Chemistry I), Indigenous Teachings 1040, and Writing Studies 1010.The program requires completion of one introductory and three advanced engineering focus area electives, as well as complementary studies and science electives. In total, students complete 141 credit hours. This structured progression ensures a strong technical foundation combined with practical, project-based learning to prepare students for professional engineering careers focused on sustainable design.
