COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Nursing program at UPEI spans four years and integrates a comprehensive curriculum combining nursing, health sciences, psychology, and related disciplines. In Year 1, students take foundational courses including Introductory Microbiology, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition for Nursing Practice, Psychology I and II, Foundations of Nursing I and II, and a writing or inquiry course. Year 2 builds on this foundation with courses in Developmental Psychology, Pathophysiology, Health Assessment, Nursing of Young Families, Adult Nursing Transitions, Introductory Pharmacology, Indigenous Teachings, and statistics. Year 3 focuses on specialized nursing topics such as Issues in Nursing and Health Care, Nursing Research Methods, Childbearing Family Nursing, Community Partnerships, Chronic Illness Care, and Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing, alongside electives and the first Integrated Clinical Experience. In the final year, students study Nursing and Population Health, complete the second Integrated Clinical Experience, Nursing Leadership and Primary Health Care, Conceptual Models and Nursing Theories, and additional electives. This rigorous program equips students with theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and clinical experience essential for competent, compassionate nursing practice, emphasizing holistic care and collaboration within diverse communities.
