COURSE CURRICULUM

The Kinesiology Major at UPEI requires students to complete 60 semester hours in Kinesiology and an additional 6 semester hours in Foods and Nutrition. The program includes foundational and advanced courses that examine human movement, health, and performance from physiological, psychological, biomechanical, and sociocultural perspectives. Required Kinesiology courses include Introduction to Kinesiology, Sport and Exercise Psychology, Exercise Physiology, Motor Learning and Control, Anatomical Kinesiology, Sociology of Sport, Biomechanics, Research Methods, Motor Development, Physiological Assessment, Ethical Issues in Health, and Exercise Prescription. Students must also complete eight additional Kinesiology electives at the 3000 or 4000 level. In Foods and Nutrition, students take Introductory Nutrition I and II. Supporting science and math requirements include courses in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Mathematics, and Statistics. Additional required courses include Introductory Psychology I and II, an Indigenous Studies course (IKE 1040), and one of UPEI’s foundational first-year seminars (1010, 1020, or 1030), along with one writing-intensive course. This comprehensive curriculum provides a strong academic and practical foundation for careers in health, fitness, sport, rehabilitation, or further studies in fields such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, or education. Students are encouraged to consult with their faculty advisor to ensure optimal course planning based on their interests and career goals.
