COURSE CURRICULUM

Financial Mathematics at UPEI requires a total of 120 semester hours of credit. The program includes a common core of 23 credit hours covering essential topics such as Computer Science II, Multivariable and Vector Calculus, Linear Algebra II, Mathematical Reasoning, and Probability and Mathematical Statistics I and II. Students also complete applied courses like Applied Regression Analysis, Visual Basic and R Technology Labs, and Financial Mathematics I. The curriculum offers advanced courses in financial mathematics, including Introduction to Financial Derivatives, Financial Mathematics II and III, Mathematical Modelling, Advanced Corporate Finance, and Differential Equations. Additional specialized courses cover Real Analysis, Time Series, Stochastic Processes, Numerical Analysis, and Statistics for Risk Modelling or Generalized Linear Models. Economics and business fundamentals are integrated with required courses in Introductory Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Introduction to Accounting, and Corporate Finance. Students choose at least one course from options like Money and Financial Institutions, Integrated Cases in Corporate Finance, Entrepreneurial Finance, or Personal Finance. The program also emphasizes professional skills through courses like Tutoring in Mathematical and Computational Sciences and Professional Communication and Practice. To complete the degree, students must take 15 credits of general electives, allowing flexibility to tailor their education. This comprehensive program equips students with strong analytical, mathematical, and financial expertise for diverse career paths.
