COURSE CURRICULUM

The Major in Analytics with a specialization in Data Analytics at UPEI requires a total of 120 semester hours of credit, designed to provide students with a strong foundation in computer science, mathematics, and statistics. The common core includes essential courses such as Computer Science II, Introduction to Data Science, Multivariable and Vector Calculus, and Linear Algebra II, along with a choice of technology labs like MAPLE, Matlab, or R. The program covers advanced topics including Combinatorics, Optimization, Combinatorial Optimization, Mathematical Modelling, Differential Equations, and multiple courses in Probability and Statistics such as Probability and Mathematical Statistics I and II, Applied Regression Analysis, Data Analysis and Inference, and Data Visualization and Mining. Core computer science courses include Computer Science III, Data Structures and Algorithms, Database Systems, Analysis and Design of Algorithms, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Data Science. Students are also required to complete two electives in Mathematical and Computational Sciences at the 2000 level or higher, alongside courses in tutoring and professional communication. To complement their specialized studies, students take additional general electives, allowing for a well-rounded education. This comprehensive curriculum prepares graduates to analyze and interpret complex data sets, develop predictive models, and apply machine learning techniques, equipping them with the skills demanded by data-driven industries.
