COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at UPEI provides students with a solid foundation in chemical theory and practical lab experience, preparing them for diverse scientific careers or advanced studies. In the first year, students build core scientific knowledge with General Chemistry (Chem 1110-1120), General Biology (Biol 1310-1320), General or Life Sciences Physics (Phys 1110-1120 or 1210-1220), and Calculus I and II (Math 1910-1920), along with 6 elective credits. The second year deepens understanding with Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry I & II, Physical Chemistry I, and Inorganic Chemistry I, alongside Multivariable Calculus and 9 credits of electives. In the third year, students explore advanced topics through Analytical Instrumentation, Physical Chemistry II, Advanced Organic Chemistry, Organic Spectroscopy, and Inorganic Chemistry II, with an additional 15 elective credits. The final year includes Biochemistry and either an Advanced Research Project (Chem 4820) or Advanced Chemistry Laboratory (Chem 4830), plus chemistry electives and 15–18 elective credit hours. Throughout the program, students gain extensive laboratory training and may engage in faculty-supervised research. Graduates are well-equipped for roles in industry, government labs, environmental monitoring, or for pursuing graduate studies in chemistry, medicine, pharmacy, or related fields.
