COURSE CURRICULUM

The Major in Analytics with a specialization in Business Analytics at UPEI requires a total of 120 semester hours of credit, blending courses in computer science, mathematics, statistics, accounting, and business to prepare students for data-driven decision-making in business environments. The program begins with a common core that includes Computer Science II, Introduction to Data Science, Multivariable and Vector Calculus, Linear Algebra II, and a choice of technology labs such as MAPLE, Matlab, or R. Foundational courses in combinatorics, optimization, mathematical modeling, differential equations, and probability and statistics provide a strong analytical base. Computer science courses cover Computer Science III, Data Structures and Algorithms, Database Systems, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Data Science. Complementing these are business courses including Introduction to Financial Accounting, Marketing, and Organizational Behaviour. Students must also complete at least five advanced business courses from options such as Managerial Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Research and Evidence-Based Management, Human Resource Management, Business Law, Corporate Finance, Operations Management, and Project Management or Developing Management Skills. The curriculum includes tutoring and professional communication courses, plus additional general electives. This integrated approach equips graduates with the skills to analyze business data effectively, apply statistical and computational methods, and make strategic business decisions, preparing them for diverse roles in analytics within various industries.
