COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Applied Climate Change and Adaptation at UPEI is a four-year interdisciplinary program designed to equip students with the scientific knowledge and practical skills necessary to address climate challenges. In year 1, students are introduced to foundational topics through courses such as Introduction to PEI’s Living Climate Lab, Climate Adaptation Tools and Technologies, Climate Change, and Environmental Biology, alongside studies in chemistry, calculus, Indigenous teachings, and academic writing or university transition courses. Year 2 builds on this foundation with courses in Climate Change Policy and Politics, Indigenous Knowledge and Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Clean Technologies, Environmental Chemistry, Earth’s Physical Environment, Climate Physics, Computer Science, and Statistics. This year also includes the first work-integrated learning placement in the summer. In year 3, students explore specialized subjects like Global Climate Systems and Science, Climate Futures and Modelling, Climate Change Monitoring, Climate Statistics in R, Geographic Information Systems, Biodiversity Impacts, Canadian Climate Policy, and Carbon Pricing Mechanisms, followed by a second summer work placement. Year 4 focuses on advanced topics such as Coastal Science, Climate Extremes, Carbon Accounting, Virtual Reality Applications, International Climate Diplomacy, Remote Sensing, and Precision Agriculture. With electives throughout, the program offers a strong combination of theory, practical skills, and real-world experience to prepare graduates for careers in climate adaptation, environmental consulting, policy, and research.
