COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Integrated Studies (BIS) at UPEI requires the completion of 90 semester hours, with a focus on flexibility and career relevance for adult learners. To meet the degree requirements, students must complete 24 semester hours (eight courses) at the senior level. This includes six courses at the 3000–4000 level in any subject area, as well as one 3000-level and one 4000-level course specifically within the student’s chosen concentration. At least five of these eight senior-level courses must be completed with a minimum grade of 65%. Additionally, students are limited to a maximum of 36 semester hours (twelve courses) at the preparatory 1000 level to ensure academic progression. Core program components include six semester hours from one of UPEI’s foundational first-year courses (UPEI 1010, 1020, or 1030) and one designated writing-intensive course to support academic communication skills. All BIS students must also complete Integrated Studies 1930, which focuses on developing a career and learning portfolio, and IKE 1040, a course on Indigenous Teachings of Turtle Island, reflecting UPEI’s commitment to cultural understanding and reconciliation. This structure ensures students graduate with practical, academic, and professional competencies suited to a range of careers and educational pathways.
