COURSE CURRICULUM

History major at UPEI, students must first complete History 1010 and 1020, along with six semester hours (two courses) at the 2000 level. It is recommended that students take History 2010 and 2020 during their first or second year to meet this requirement. While students may take additional 2000-level courses, the core required courses for the major include History 1010, 1020, 2010, 2020, 2110, and 3120. Courses 1010, 1020, 2010, 2020, and 2110 should be completed by the end of the fourth semester, while History 3120 should be completed by the end of the sixth semester. To fulfill the major requirements, students must complete a minimum of 42 credit hours in History (equivalent to 14 courses). This includes at least three courses (9 credit hours) at the 3000 level and three courses (9 credit hours) at the 4000 level. Additionally, students must complete six credit hours at the 2000 to 4000 level in one of the following thematic areas: Britain, the USA, or Global History. The program is designed to provide both broad historical knowledge and specialized study, ensuring students gain strong research, critical thinking, and analytical skills applicable to diverse career paths.
