COURSE CURRICULUM

The Major in Applied Communication, Leadership, and Culture at UPEI requires students to complete a set of core courses that integrate communication skills, leadership development, and practical experience. The program begins with foundational courses such as English 1010 (Academic Writing), ACLC 1060 (Putting Arts to Work I), and ACLC 1080 (Digital Literacy), which establish key competencies in writing and technology. Students then advance to University 2030 (Introduction to Leadership Studies) and English 2340 (Public Speaking), focusing on building effective communication and leadership skills. Intermediate courses like ACLC 2090 (Digital Humanities), University 3030 (Leadership Theory and Practice), ACLC 3060 (Putting Arts to Work II), and ACLC 3080 (Leadership for a Changing World) continue to develop students' abilities to apply their arts education to real-world settings. Upper-year requirements include English 3810 (Professional Writing), Arts 4010 (Capstone Arts), and a choice between English 4040 (Communication and Rhetoric: Capstone Writing) or ACLC 4000 (Advanced Workshop in Applied Communication), both of which serve as capstone writing experiences. The program culminates in ACLC 4060 (Putting Arts to Work III) and ACLC 4070 (Work Integrated Internship), where students gain hands-on experience in professional environments, preparing them to transition successfully into careers or further study.
