COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Health Science in Occupational Therapy program at the University of Ottawa offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students to become skilled occupational therapists who support individuals and groups in engaging meaningfully in their daily activities, known as occupations. The program combines theoretical coursework, practical training, and clinical placements to provide a well-rounded education. Students explore the interaction between the person, their environment, and their occupations, learning to identify barriers and develop strategies to overcome physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges. The curriculum emphasizes the development of professional skills and ethical practice, ensuring graduates are prepared to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams. The course structure is organized around six core themes: occupational participation, fundamental principles of professional practice, health conditions and interventions, collaborative occupational therapy practice, critical evaluation of knowledge, and knowledge integration. The program offers flexibility with full-time, part-time, and accelerated options for qualified practitioners, enabling completion in different timeframes. Graduates are equipped to lead and advocate for inclusive occupational opportunities, advancing knowledge and fostering diversity and equity within their communities. Through a blend of rigorous academic study and hands-on experience, students develop the skills necessary to deliver holistic, evidence-based care that enhances the well-being and independence of those they serve.
