COURSE CURRICULUM

The History graduate program offers a comprehensive range of seminars and research courses that cover various historical themes and periods, aiming to deepen students’ knowledge and research abilities. Key seminars focus on Canadian history, including topics such as Canadian history, New France, British North America, Quebec history, and American history. Other courses explore thematic and methodological issues such as digital and public history, the history of Francophones in North America, immigrants and ethnic groups, women and gender, colonialism and postcolonialism, war and society, and the history of medicine. Students engage in research seminars addressing historiographical debates and methodologies, while advanced research courses cover regional and global histories such as Asian, Middle Eastern, African history, and specialized fields like economic, intellectual, political history, and Indigenous history in Canada. The program also includes directed studies and research paper options, allowing in-depth exploration of particular topics. Students prepare for academic careers through the master’s research paper and doctoral oral examination, benefiting from a curriculum that develops critical thinking, historical analysis, and professional skills essential for careers in academia, museums, archives, or public history.
