COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Education (M.Ed.) program at the University of Ottawa offers two main options to suit different academic and professional goals. The coursework option is a course-based program designed to help students deepen their understanding of education, enhance their professional skills, and broaden their career opportunities. It is ideal for those looking to improve their practice in the field of education without focusing extensively on research. Alternatively, the M.Ed. with a major research paper (MRP) option combines coursework with a research component. Regardless of the option chosen, all M.Ed. candidates must select one concentration to focus their studies. The available concentrations include counselling psychology, which focuses on supporting individuals’ mental health and well-being within educational contexts; health professions education, which prepares students to improve education and training in health-related fields; leadership, evaluation, curriculum and policy studies, which covers educational leadership, program evaluation, curriculum development, and policy analysis; second language education, which addresses teaching and learning in bilingual or multilingual settings; societies, cultures and languages, which explores the social and cultural aspects of education and language learning; and studies in teaching and learning, which focuses on instructional methods and learning processes.
