COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics program provides a comprehensive curriculum designed to develop students’ understanding of how individuals, businesses, and governments make decisions in a world of scarce resources. The program begins with basic skills courses such as Workshop in Essay Writing and Selected Topics in Literature and Composition, totaling 6 units, to strengthen students’ communication abilities. The core of the program consists of compulsory economics and mathematics courses totaling 66 units. These include introductory courses in macroeconomics and microeconomics, foundational mathematical methods, and advanced economic theory such as Macroeconomic Theory I, II, and III, Microeconomic Theory I, II, and III, as well as courses in probability, statistics, and econometrics tailored for economists. Mathematical Economics is also included to enhance analytical skills.In addition to core courses, students select from optional economics courses totaling 30 units, which may include advanced topics at the 3000 and 4000 levels, allowing for specialization based on interests and career goals. To ensure a well-rounded education, students complete 48 elective units, which may be fulfilled entirely by electives or combined with a minor subject for broader expertise.The program’s structure emphasizes critical thinking, quantitative analysis, and practical application, equipping graduates to address complex economic issues such as income inequality, resource allocation, and economic policy decisions. This curriculum prepares students for careers in government, finance, research, and business, as well as for advanced studies in economics or related fields. Through this well-balanced combination of theory, quantitative tools, and electives, students gain a deep and versatile understanding of economic principles and their impact on society.
