COURSE CURRICULUM

The Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing program features a structured curriculum designed to provide students with a strong foundation in nursing theory, practice, and related health sciences. The first-year compulsory courses include Human Anatomy and Physiology I, II, and III, Microbiology and Immunology, Workshop in Essay Writing, Determinants of Health, Philosophical Issues in Health Care, and Introduction to Psychology. These courses establish essential knowledge in biological sciences, health determinants, communication, and foundational psychology, preparing students for advanced nursing studies. Beyond the first year, the program includes core nursing courses such as Introduction to Nursing Science and Practice, Health Assessment, and Theory in Nursing, which build students’ understanding of nursing principles and patient care. Specialized courses focus on caring for adults experiencing illness, family-centered care for children, childbearing family care, community health nursing, mental health nursing, and complex nursing care. Research in Nursing and Nursing Professionalism and Ethics courses emphasize evidence-based practice and ethical responsibilities. The curriculum integrates extensive practicum experiences throughout, including placements in mental health, adult care, child and family care, community health, consolidation, and complex nursing care, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. Additional courses in Clinical Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Lifespan Psychology, and Interprofessional Health Care Practice provide critical scientific and collaborative skills necessary for comprehensive nursing care. Students also complete 12 elective units, offering flexibility to explore related areas of interest. Altogether, the program requires 120 units and is designed to prepare graduates to deliver high-quality nursing care, develop critical thinking, and assume leadership roles within healthcare. This comprehensive education supports graduates’ readiness for diverse clinical environments and advanced studies in nursing.
