COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mathematics Honours program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to build a strong foundation in mathematical theory, reasoning, and applications. It begins with essential basic skills, including 3 optional course units in English at the 1000 or 2000 level to enhance communication abilities. The core compulsory courses cover fundamental mathematical topics such as Introduction to Computing, Calculus I and II, Linear Algebra, Mathematical Reasoning and Proofs, Multivariable Calculus, Elementary Real Analysis, Honours Linear Algebra, Group Theory, Ordinary Differential Equations, and Introduction to Probability. Advanced courses include Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, Rings and Modules, and Applied Linear Algebra, which deepen students’ understanding of mathematical structures and analytical techniques.To complement the core studies, students select 6 optional course units from introductory topics like Numerical Methods, Discrete Mathematics, Geometry, Foundations of Mathematics, and Statistics. Further specialization occurs through 18 optional units in mathematics at the 3000 or 4000 level and 6 advanced units at the 4000 level, allowing students to tailor their education to specific interests or career goals.The program also includes 9 elective course units from diverse faculties such as Arts, Education, Law, Social Sciences, or the Telfer School of Management, encouraging interdisciplinary learning and broadening perspectives. In total, students complete 120 units, combining rigorous mathematical training with opportunities for personal and professional growth.This curriculum prepares graduates for a variety of career paths in academia, research, finance, technology, and beyond, equipping them with strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills essential in today’s data-driven world.
