COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Science program offers a comprehensive course list designed to build a strong foundation in computing principles, mathematics, and engineering, while also providing opportunities for specialization and advanced study. The curriculum begins with core courses such as Technical Report Writing, Digital Systems, and Introduction to Computing, paired with essential mathematics classes including Calculus I and II, Linear Algebra, and Discrete Mathematics for Computing. Students then progress to foundational computer science topics like Computer Architecture, Discrete Structures, Data Structures and Algorithms, Programming Paradigms, and Databases. Professional Practice in Computing and Probability and Statistics for Engineers prepare students for real-world applications and decision-making. Advanced courses include Software Engineering, Formal Languages, Algorithm Design, Programming Language Concepts, Operating Systems, Web Technologies, and Data Communications and Networking. The program culminates in an Honours Project, where students apply their accumulated knowledge in a significant research or development effort. Students can choose between two options for elective courses: one option allows them to take 6 optional units in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or software engineering at the 3000 level or computer science at the 4000 level; the other combines advanced programming concepts with additional electives in related fields. Beyond computing courses, students complete 27 units of non-computing and non-mathematics courses, fostering a well-rounded education, along with 3 units of free electives. In total, the program requires 120 course units, offering a balance of technical depth, practical skills, and interdisciplinary learning, preparing graduates for diverse careers in computing and technology.
