COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Applied Science in Biomedical Mechanical Engineering is a comprehensive 132-unit undergraduate program that integrates core mechanical engineering principles with specialized biomedical applications. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in subjects such as human anatomy and physiology, chemistry, technical writing, engineering mechanics, linear algebra, calculus, physics, and mechanical drafting. The second year focuses on advanced engineering design and analysis through courses in mechanics of materials, electric circuits, multivariable calculus, probability and statistics, thermodynamics, dynamics, and materials science. In the third year, students deepen their expertise with studies in electronics, product development, mathematical modeling, heat transfer, machine design, biomechanics, control systems, and fluid mechanics. The curriculum continues into the fourth year with a blend of professional, technical, and biomedical topics including engineering law, bioethics, and the design of artificial organs and joint prostheses. A major component of the final year is the Biomedical Mechanical Engineering Capstone Project, a six-unit course that provides practical, team-based experience in developing real-world biomedical solutions. Students also choose from several upper-year electives in mechanical engineering and interdisciplinary topics such as entrepreneurship or historical perspectives on technology. This program is designed to prepare graduates for diverse career paths in both traditional mechanical engineering and the rapidly expanding biomedical sector.
