COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Commerce program requires students to complete a structured curriculum designed to build a comprehensive understanding of business practices, economics, and management. Students must achieve a minimum grade of C- in all prerequisite courses before enrolling in any major-specific courses, though exceptions may be made at the discretion of the Program Chair. The program begins with lower-division courses at the 100 and 200 levels, covering foundational topics such as Canadian business, microeconomics, macroeconomics, Indigenous studies, global studies, mathematics (finite math, linear algebra, calculus), and business communication. Students transferring with 30 or more credit hours in required courses are exempt from the Introduction to Canadian Business. The 200-level curriculum adds core business subjects including accounting, marketing, financial management, organizational behaviour, entrepreneurship, business computing, and statistics. In the upper division (300 and 400 levels), students advance into specialized and strategic topics such as business law, international business, financial management II, international finance, human resources, business ethics, marketing strategies, operations management, information systems, and strategic management. The program also emphasizes global business perspectives through courses like cross-cultural workplace practices, international marketing, and managerial economics. Students are required to take at least one advanced economics course from a diverse selection including labour economics, financial economics, econometrics, and international economic relations. To enhance global awareness, a minimum of 6 credit hours must be completed in International Studies (INTS) at any level. Additionally, students must fulfill elective and academic breadth requirements to reach the minimum of 120 total credit hours needed for graduation. These electives provide flexibility to explore other areas of interest or deepen knowledge in specific fields such as math or international business. Overall, the program prepares students for a range of professional roles in business, finance, and global commerce.
