COURSE CURRICULUM

The Global and International Studies program offers a comprehensive curriculum that prepares students to engage with global issues and cultural studies. The major requires 57 credit hours, including lower and upper-division courses and a Cultures and Regions requirement. Students explore global challenges through courses such as Introduction to Global Studies, Globalizations, and Contemporary Economic Issues, and can specialize in topics like global environmental change, political systems, and international development. The program includes a language component with options in French, Japanese, and Spanish, along with regional studies in areas like Latin America, the Circumpolar North, and Asia. In the upper division, students must complete additional courses in Global and International Studies and take courses from related fields such as Economics, Geography, History, and Political Science. For those interested in more specialized fields, the program offers joint majors in Economics and Global and International Studies and Global and International Studies and Political Science. These joint programs combine courses from both disciplines and include a capstone project or course. Students also have the option to pursue minors in Global and International Studies, Global Sustainability, and Japanese Language and Culture. Each minor has specific course requirements that allow students to focus on key areas, such as sustainability, economic development, or cultural studies related to Japan.
