COURSE CURRICULUM

The Environmental Engineering program at UNBC is offered in two streams: a standalone UNBC degree and a collaborative UNBC/UBC joint degree. Both pathways provide a comprehensive foundation in engineering principles, mathematics, and environmental science, with an emphasis on sustainability and practical problem-solving. The standalone UNBC program consists of 151 credit hours and spans topics like water and wastewater systems, hydrology, fluid mechanics, geotechnical engineering, and sustainable design. Students select from a wide range of electives in civil, environmental, and earth sciences, as well as complementary studies in policy, Indigenous perspectives, and social science. The joint program, accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board, expands the curriculum over 163 credit hours and involves study at both institutions. Students complete foundational coursework at UNBC, then transition to UBC for advanced training in environmental systems, transport phenomena, pollution control, and engineering design, before returning to UNBC for a final integrative design project. This unique collaboration leverages the strengths of both institutions, preparing graduates for leadership in environmentally responsible infrastructure, regulation, and policy across Canada and beyond.
