COURSE CURRICULUM

The Department of Biology at UNB offers several programs: Honours (by Thesis or by Course), Major, and Minor. The Honours programs prepare students for graduate studies in Biology or entry into many professional schools. The Major program provides focused study in Biology while allowing students to take courses from other departments and faculties, making it ideal for those with interdisciplinary goals. It can also help meet prerequisites for professional schools with proper planning. The Minor program is designed to complement a student’s major and requires approval from the Biology Director of Undergraduate Studies, along with meeting minimum GPA and prerequisite requirements. All programs emphasize the importance of courses from other departments, with Honours and Major students needing at least 12 credit hours of electives from the Faculty of Arts. Students aiming for pre-health professional studies should consult their Biology advisor early to plan appropriate electives and meet professional school prerequisites, and also seek advice from an Assistant Dean of Science. The Major program requires a total of 132 credit hours.
