COURSE CURRICULUM

The Applied Physics program at the University of New Brunswick (UNB) offers both Honours and Major degree options, structured over four years. The first year includes foundational courses such as Introductory Physics I and II, along with associated laboratory courses, Calculus I and II, and an introductory Earth Science course, complemented by 6 credit hours of electives. In the second year, students delve into topics like Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, Waves, Optics, and Thermodynamics, alongside courses in Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, and an introductory Computing course. The third and fourth years focus on advanced subjects including Quantum Mechanics, Electromagnetic Theory, Statistical Mechanics, and Solid State Physics. Students also engage in specialized courses such as Nuclear Physics, Medical Physics, and Advanced Laboratory Techniques. A significant component of the program is the completion of a Capstone Design Project, which synthesizes learning and practical application. Throughout the program, students are encouraged to select electives that align with their interests, particularly in engineering and computer science, to tailor their education towards specific career paths in applied physics.
