COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Surgery program follows a structured two-year plan of study designed to provide both clinical knowledge and research skills. In the first year, students complete required courses including the Research Integrity Tutorial (GRAD 7300) and Academic Integrity Tutorial (GRAD 7500), both essential for understanding ethical research practices. Core surgical courses include SURG 7012, focusing on major surgical problems (Parts A & B), and SURG 7030, an advanced surgery course, providing in-depth clinical training. Additionally, students must select 6 credit hours from elective courses tailored to enhance their research and analytical abilities. Elective options include SURG 7022, covering specialty rounds in surgical problems, and biostatistics courses such as CHSC 7810, CHSC 7820, and CHSC 7830, which focus on biostatistical methods relevant to health sciences and community health. These electives equip students with important quantitative skills for surgical research. In the second year, students dedicate their time to the Master’s Thesis (GRAD 7000), allowing them to apply their knowledge in an original research project. Overall, the program totals 12 credit hours and balances clinical expertise with research proficiency, preparing residents for advanced careers in surgery, research, and academic medicine.
