COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Pediatrics and Child Health program features a structured two-year curriculum designed to build research skills and deepen understanding of child health. In Year 1, Term 1, students take core courses such as Introduction to Biostatistics in Child Health Research (3 credit hours) and Introduction to Research Methods (3 credit hours), alongside professional development courses including Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion for Professionals, Introduction to a Clinical Environment, Virtual Healthcare Delivery, and Indigenous Child Health, which are non-credit. In Term 2, students focus on Ethics and Equity in Child Health Research and Reflexive Practices in Patient Engagement, both non-credit, while also preparing ethics submissions and research proposals. Year 2 emphasizes immersive, multidisciplinary experiences with courses like Multidisciplinary Immersion in Clinical Research, Basic Science, Population Health, and Practice and Policy, each offering 1.5 credit hours in Term 1. Concurrently, students engage in their research projects under faculty supervision. Term 2 of the second year is dedicated to thesis writing and defense, where students present their original research findings. This program provides a comprehensive balance of coursework, practical research immersion, and scholarly writing, equipping graduates with the expertise necessary for advanced research roles or further doctoral studies in pediatrics and child health.
