The Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases MSc program offers a range of specialized courses designed to provide students with a strong foundation in both the theoretical and practical aspects of infectious disease research. Course offerings include MMIC 6010: Biological Safety, which covers essential lab safety protocols; MMIC 7012: Fundamental Virology, focusing on virus structure, replication, and host interactions; and MMIC 7040: Clinical Bacteriology, which explores the diagnosis and clinical implications of bacterial infections. Students can also take MMIC 7050: Microbial Pathogenicity, examining the mechanisms microbes use to cause disease, and MMIC 7140: Clinical Parasitology, which investigates parasites of medical importance. Advanced topics include MMIC 7160: The Molecular Basis of Antibiotic Action and MMIC 7170: Molecular Biology of Animal Viruses, offering in-depth understanding of antimicrobial strategies and viral gene expression. MMIC 7190: Readings in Infectious Diseases allows students to engage with current literature, while MMIC 7210: Clinical Virology and MMIC 7220: The Ecology of Infectious Diseases provide clinical and ecological perspectives on pathogen behavior and transmission.
