COURSE CURRICULUM

The Genetic Counselling MSc program offers a comprehensive range of courses designed to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for a career in genetic counselling. Core courses include Clinical Genetics 1 and 2, which provide an in-depth understanding of genetic disorders and clinical applications. Principles and Practice of Human Genetics and Genetic Epidemiology of Human Populations cover foundational genetic concepts and the study of genetic variations within populations. The Theory and Practice of Genetic Counselling course equips students with essential counselling skills, focusing on communication, ethical issues, and psychosocial aspects of genetic healthcare. Students participate in seminars such as Seminars in Human Genetics and Research Seminar, fostering critical thinking and engagement with current research. Practical experience is gained through clinical rotations, including Introduction to Genetic Counselling Clinical Rotation and Advanced Genetic Counselling Clinical Rotation, where students work directly with patients under supervision to apply their knowledge in real-world settings. Additionally, courses from the Applied Counselling Program complement the genetic counselling curriculum, broadening students’ skills in counselling techniques and therapeutic approaches. Research electives allow students to pursue specialized interests and contribute to ongoing research in genetics and counselling.
