COURSE CURRICULUM

Master of Science students in the Disability Studies program follow a curriculum that combines core disability knowledge with scientific research training. Students are required to complete 15 credit hours of core Disability courses, which focus on the social, cultural, and political dimensions of disability. These courses provide a strong foundation in understanding disability from a social model perspective, moving beyond traditional medical or treatment-focused approaches. In addition to the core coursework, students must complete an external research methods course worth 3 credit hours. This course is designed to equip students with essential scientific research skills, including both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, enabling them to conduct rigorous, evidence-based studies relevant to disability and related health sciences. Furthermore, students must take 6 credit hours of elective courses at the 4000 level or above in science-based disciplines. These electives allow students to tailor their studies toward specific scientific areas such as genetics, neuroscience, rehabilitation science, or epidemiology, supporting a more specialized and interdisciplinary approach to disability research. This blend of core disability studies, research methodology, and science-based electives prepares MSc students to undertake advanced research projects and contribute to the growing body of scientific knowledge related to disability, health, and social inclusion.
