COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) program at the University of Manitoba spans two years and integrates classroom learning with field-based experiences to prepare students for entry-level practice. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through courses such as Human Determinants of Occupational Performance, Fundamentals of Occupational Therapy Theory, and Foundations of Health and Well-being. They also begin developing clinical skills in Occupational Therapy Practice Skills 1 and 2, and gain early exposure to the profession through Basic and Intermediate Fieldwork placements. Additional coursework focuses on professionalism, health conditions, and evidence-informed practice.The second year deepens clinical reasoning and practice competencies through advanced courses such as Occupational Therapy Process 1 and 2, Practice Skills 3 and 4, and Professionalism and Leadership in Enabling Occupation. Students further apply their learning in Intermediate Fieldwork 2 and Advanced Fieldwork placements. A critical component of the final year is the Critical Inquiry Research Project, which allows students to explore a relevant issue in occupational therapy using scholarly methods. Throughout the program, emphasis is placed on cultural humility, interprofessional collaboration, and evidence-informed care. Graduates emerge ready to contribute to the health and well-being of individuals and communities across diverse practice settings.
