COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Human Rights (MHR) program offers a combination of required and elective courses that provide students with a strong foundation in human rights theory, research, law, and practice. Core courses include HMRT 7100: Theory and Practice of Human Rights: Critical Perspectives, which examines the philosophical and historical roots of human rights, HMRT 7200: Selected Topics in Human Rights Research and Methods, focused on interdisciplinary research approaches, and HMRT 7300: Human Rights Law, which provides students with an understanding of key legal frameworks and instruments. In addition to these required courses, students can select from a wide range of approved graduate-level electives offered by faculties supporting the program. These electives allow students to tailor their studies to specific interests and include ANTH 7080: Museums, Memory, and Witnessing, DS 7020: History of Disability, EDUB 7212: Critical Applied Linguistics in a Global Context, and GEOG 7550: Political Ecology, Power and Discourse. Other options include HIST 7772: Imperialism, Revolution, Democracy, PEAC 7126: Ethnic Conflict Analysis and Resolution, POLS 7790: International Relations Theory, and SWRK 7440: Policy Analysis in Social Work Practice. This diverse curriculum equips students with the knowledge and interdisciplinary tools to work effectively in the human rights field across sectors and global contexts.
