COURSE CURRICULUM

The two-year MA in School Psychology (Comprehensive Exam Stream) at the University of Manitoba is a rigorous, practice-oriented program designed to prepare students for professional roles within school and community settings. The program consists of 54 credit hours over two years, integrating academic coursework, practicum experiences, and a comprehensive examination. In Year 1, students build foundational knowledge in areas such as ethics and professional practice (PSYC 7012), legal aspects of education (EDUA 5012), psycho-educational assessment (PSYC 7022 and 7024), cognitive and learning impairments (PSYC 7030), and instructional strategies (PSYC 7040). They also complete junior practicum (PSYC 7050) and develop competencies in child psychopathology, personality assessment, and systems-level collaboration. Year 2 focuses on advanced training through a senior practicum (PSYC 7060), and courses in behavioural intervention (PSYC 7090), consultation and supervision (PSYC 7120), program evaluation (PSYC 7130), and evidence-based interventions (PSYC 7820 and 7830). The program also includes GRAD 7010, a comprehensive examination, which assesses integration of theory, practice, and research. Graduates are equipped with the skills needed to assess, intervene, consult, and lead within school systems, and are prepared to pursue certification and licensure as school psychologists or to continue toward doctoral-level studies.
