COURSE CURRICULUM

The Kinesiology and Recreation Management graduate programs offer a diverse range of courses designed to deepen students’ understanding of human movement, exercise physiology, community development, and leisure studies. Courses such as KPER 7402: Community Development: Qualitative Methods focus on research approaches that engage with communities to address health and recreational needs. KPER 7100: Molecular Mechanisms of Exercise Physiology 1 explores the cellular and molecular basis of exercise and its effects on the human body. Students interested in motor control and learning can take KPER 7200: Sensorimotor Integration, which covers fundamental theories in how humans control and learn movement. Technical skills are developed through courses like KPER 7202: Instrumentation and Signal Processing in Human Movement Science, where students learn to analyze human movement using advanced tools.In addition to the science-based courses, the program also offers studies in the social and cultural aspects of recreation and leisure. KPER 7400 examines the humanities and social sciences related to exercise, leisure, physical education, and sport, while KPER 7404 introduces Indigenous Land-Based Skills, highlighting the importance of Indigenous knowledge and practices. Courses such as KPER 7410 and KPER 7440 provide theoretical frameworks for leisure, recreation, parks, tourism, and cultural studies, enriching students' understanding of the broader social context of physical activity and recreation. These offerings equip students with a well-rounded skill set for research and practice in health, leisure, and human performance fields.
