COURSE CURRICULUM

The Indigenous Studies MA program offers a range of courses that deepen students’ understanding of Indigenous histories, cultures, and contemporary issues. Core courses include INDG 7230: Methodology and Research Issues in Indigenous Studies, which equips students with essential research skills and explores ethical and methodological challenges in Indigenous research. INDG 7240: Issues in Colonization examines the historical and ongoing impacts of colonization on Indigenous peoples. Students can explore cultural theories and practices in INDG 7250: Culture: Theory and Praxis, fostering an understanding of Indigenous cultural expression and its relevance today. The program also includes INDG 7280: Indigenous Studies Colloquia, providing opportunities for students to engage with current topics and research in the field. Specialized courses such as INDG 7290: Seminar in Aboriginal Economy focus on economic issues affecting Indigenous communities. Advanced seminars like INDG 7310: Critical Theory and Indigenous Studies and INDG 7320: Trauma Theory in Indigenous Writing in Canada and Australia encourage critical engagement with Indigenous literature, trauma, and theory. Finally, INDG 7340: Advanced Seminar in Selected Topics on Indigenous Research allows students to explore specific research themes in depth. These courses collectively support students in developing both academic expertise and practical research skills within Indigenous Studies.
