COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA programs in German and Slavic Studies offer a diverse selection of courses designed to deepen students’ understanding of language, literature, and culture. In the German stream, courses such as GRMN 7200: Literary and Cultural Theory provide critical frameworks for analyzing texts and cultural phenomena. GRMN 7242: Colloquium in German Studies 2 encourages advanced discussion and research in German studies, while GRMN 7340: Seminar in German Film and Media Studies explores visual and media culture within German-speaking contexts. GRMN 7350: Seminar in German and European Literature and Culture broadens the scope to include European literary and cultural traditions. GRMN 7360: Independent Studies in German allows students to tailor their learning through focused research projects. In the Slavic Studies stream, SLAV 7200: Literary and Cultural Theory offers foundational critical approaches to Slavic texts. SLAV 7210: Introduction to Second Language Acquisition and Methods of Language Teaching addresses language pedagogy, an essential skill for future educators. SLAV 7400: Selected Topics in Slavic Literatures and SLAV 7410: Seminar in Contemporary Slavic Literatures examine a range of literary works, both historical and modern. SLAV 7420: Studies in Modernism focuses on the modernist movements within Slavic literary traditions. Together, these courses provide MA students with comprehensive tools to analyze, interpret, and contribute to German and Slavic literary and cultural scholarship.
