COURSE CURRICULUM

Master of Arts students in Geography are required to complete a minimum of 12 credit hours to fulfill their program requirements. This includes 3 credit hours of GEOG 7610: Graduate Seminar in Environment and Geography (Masters), which provides a platform for students to engage with current research and academic discussions within the field. In addition, students must complete 6 credit hours of courses at the 7000 level, allowing them to explore advanced topics and deepen their expertise in specialized areas of geography. The remaining 3 credit hours must be from any course at the 3000 level or higher, offering flexibility for students to broaden their academic experience. Sample courses available to students include GEOG 7500: Biogeography, which studies the distribution of biological organisms in relation to the environment; GEOG 7750: Understanding Contemporary Environmentalism: Power and Discourse, which critically examines environmental movements and their social implications; GEOG 7800: Climate and Society, focusing on the interaction between climatic factors and human societies; and GEOG 7010: Applied Qualitative Research, which develops students’ skills in qualitative research methods relevant to geography. Together, these courses and program requirements equip students with a comprehensive understanding of both human and physical geography, preparing them for research and professional careers in the field.
