COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Social Work program offers a diverse selection of courses designed to equip students with a broad understanding of social welfare, social justice, and professional practice. Foundational courses such as SWRK 1200: Introduction to Canadian Social Welfare and SWRK 1240: Social Work and Professional Identity introduce students to the history, values, and ethical principles that shape social work in Canada. Courses like SWRK 1220: Social Justice, Diversity and Human Rights, and SWRK 2000: Anti-Racist Social Work Practice emphasize the importance of equity, inclusion, and addressing systemic oppression. Students also explore specialized topics through classes such as SWRK 2010: Indigenization and Decolonization in Social Work, which focuses on Indigenous perspectives, and SWRK 2020: Community Development and Social Work, highlighting community engagement and empowerment. Policy analysis and advocacy are central themes in SWRK 2040: Social Welfare Policy: Analysis and Advocacy. Students develop practice skills through courses such as SWRK 3180: Social Work Practice with Immigrants and Refugees, SWRK 3200: Social Work Practice with 2SLGBTQIA+ Communities, and SWRK 4254: Substance Use, Mental Health, and Social Work. Feminist perspectives are covered in SWRK 3160: Feminist Perspectives in Social Work Practice and Social Welfare Policy, ensuring students understand the intersectional nature of social issues.
