COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physical Geography program offers a range of courses designed to provide students with a solid foundation in understanding Earth’s natural systems and the tools used to study them. GEOG 1290: Introduction to Physical Geography introduces students to the fundamental concepts of physical geography, including landforms, climate, and ecosystems. GEOG 2200: Introduction to Thematic Cartography focuses on map design and the communication of spatial information, essential skills for visualizing geographic data. In GEOG 2300: Atmospheric Thermodynamics, Clouds and Precipitation, students study the physical processes that govern weather and climate, gaining insight into atmospheric phenomena. GEOG 2310: Introduction to Process Hydrology explores the movement and distribution of water in the environment, covering topics such as rainfall, runoff, and groundwater flow. Quantitative research skills are developed in GEOG 3810: Quantitative Research Methods in Geography, where students learn statistical techniques and data analysis methods crucial for geographic research. GEOG 3730: Geographic Information Systems (GIS) introduces students to powerful tools for mapping and analyzing spatial data, widely used in environmental management, urban planning, and resource assessment. Together, these courses prepare students to understand complex Earth systems, apply modern technologies, and conduct research that addresses environmental challenges, equipping them for careers in geography, environmental science, and related fields.
