The Geophysics program offers a diverse range of courses that provide students with a strong foundation in earth sciences and practical skills in geophysical methods. Courses like GEOL 1340: The Dynamic Earth and GEOL 1400: Time-Trekker’s Travelog: Our Evolving Earth introduce students to the Earth’s structure, history, and dynamic processes. GEOL 2500: Introduction to Mineralogy and GEOL 2520: Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology focus on the study of minerals and rock formation, which are essential for understanding the Earth’s composition. GEOL 2800: Optics and Spectroscopy of Minerals and GEOL 2770: Principles of Inorganic Geochemistry provide knowledge on mineral properties and geochemical processes. More specialized courses, such as GEOL 3490: Glacial Geology and Geomorphology, explore landscape formation and the effects of glaciers on the Earth’s surface. GEOL 4670: Global Tectonics studies the large-scale movements of the Earth’s crust that shape continents and cause earthquakes.
