COURSE CURRICULUM

The Environmental Geoscience program offers a diverse range of courses that integrate geological sciences with environmental studies, providing students with the tools to understand and address Earth's complex environmental systems. Early foundational courses include GEOL 1340: The Dynamic Earth and GEOL 1400: Time-Trekker's Travelog: Our Evolving Earth, which introduce students to Earth’s physical processes and geological history. ENVR 1000: Environmental Science 1 – Concepts lays the groundwork for understanding key environmental issues. Technical courses such as GEOL 2500: Introduction to Mineralogy and GEOL 2800: Optics and Spectroscopy of Minerals equip students with skills in mineral identification and analysis. GEOL 2770: Principles of Inorganic Geochemistry focuses on the chemical behavior of elements in Earth systems. MATH 1500: Introduction to Calculus and PHYS 1020: General Physics 1 provide essential mathematical and physical science foundations necessary for geoscientific analysis. GEOL 3310: Paleontology explores the evolution of life through the fossil record. The program culminates in practical, hands-on learning through courses like GEOL 4260: Applied Geophysics Field Course, where students apply their knowledge in real-world field settings.
