COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biosystems Engineering (BSc) program emphasizes the integration of engineering principles with biological sciences to solve real-world problems involving living systems, including plants, animals, humans, and microorganisms. Students develop a strong foundation in core engineering disciplines such as mechanics, thermodynamics, and systems analysis, while also gaining essential knowledge of biological concepts. This interdisciplinary approach enables graduates to effectively collaborate with professionals in health, agriculture, environmental science, and biotechnology. The program is offered in both a traditional and co-operative education format, allowing students to gain valuable industry experience through work placements. Students can tailor their studies by choosing from three specializations: Biomedical, Bioresource, and Environmental, or pursue a minor in Agribusiness to explore the intersection of engineering and the agricultural economy. The curriculum prepares students to design innovative technologies that address global challenges such as sustainable food production, renewable energy, clean water systems, waste management, and medical device development. Additionally, a degree in Biosystems Engineering fulfills the requirements for admission to the Max Rady College of Medicine, making it an excellent pathway for students interested in pursuing medical or health-related careers. The program equips graduates with the technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and interdisciplinary perspective required to lead in the fields of sustainable development and life science engineering.
