COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biochemistry (BSc) program offers a wide range of courses that provide students with a solid foundation in both biological and chemical sciences. Early in the program, students take core science courses such as BIOL 1030: Biological Diversity, Function and Interactions, which introduces them to the complexity of life forms and their interactions, and CHEM 1100 and CHEM 1110, which cover atomic structure, molecular reactivity, and the principles of chemical interactions. CHEM 1120: Introduction to Chemistry Techniques gives students essential laboratory skills and hands-on experience with basic chemical procedures. Specialized biochemistry courses like CHEM/MBIO 2700: Biochemistry 1 and CHEM/MBIO 2710: Biochemistry 2 delve into the molecular structure of biomolecules, metabolic pathways, and the biochemical basis of energy production, synthesis, and genetic information flow. CHEM 2720: Principles and Practices of the Modern Biochemistry Laboratory focuses on experimental techniques used in modern biochemical research, giving students practical skills in a lab setting. Advanced topics such as CHEM 4670: Drug Design and Drug Discovery explore the biochemical and molecular principles behind pharmaceutical development. Together, these courses equip students with the theoretical knowledge and technical expertise needed for careers in biotechnology, medicine, pharmaceuticals, or advanced scientific research.
