COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Health Studies program offers a diverse selection of interdisciplinary courses that provide students with a strong foundation in both the social and biological aspects of health. Early courses such as FMLY 1012 (Introduction to Social Development) and ECON 1210 (Introduction to Canadian Economic Issues and Policies) introduce students to the societal and economic contexts of health. HEAL 1500 (Foundations of Human Biology 1) and INDG 1220 (Indigenous Peoples in Canada, Part 1) ensure students gain biological knowledge while also understanding the health realities of Indigenous communities. Courses like HEAL 2600 and HEAL 3000 explore the determinants of health at both individual and population levels, while PHIL 2740 (Ethics and Biomedicine) encourages students to reflect critically on ethical issues in healthcare. Advanced offerings such as FMLY 3750 (Fundamentals of Health Promotion), HEAL 3600 (Community Health Determinants), and HEAL 4600 (Global Health Perspectives) allow students to analyze health systems across various scales. The program culminates in HEAL 4610 (Health Studies Capstone), where students integrate their learning through research or applied projects. This course lineup prepares graduates for careers in public health, health policy, research, and social services, or for further studies in healthcare and social sciences.
