COURSE CURRICULUM

The Actuarial Mathematics (Business) (BComm) (Honours) program at the University of Manitoba is structured to provide students with a comprehensive blend of foundational knowledge, core business education, and specialized actuarial training. In the first year, students complete 24 credit hours of Foundational (f) courses designed to establish key academic skills and business fundamentals. Throughout the degree, all students must complete 45 credit hours of Core (c) courses required by the Asper School of Business, covering essential areas such as finance, accounting, marketing, and organizational behavior. Additionally, students are required to complete four Professional Skills (ps) courses, each worth 1.5 credit hours, focusing on career readiness and communication. For the Actuarial Mathematics major, students must complete 15 credit hours of Major (m) courses, chosen from a list that includes offerings such as ACT 2120, ACT 3130, ACT 3230, ACT 3340, ACT 4010, and other advanced actuarial topics. To round out their degree, students take Business Electives (be) from within the Asper School and Non-Business Electives (ne) from other faculties, allowing for both specialization and interdisciplinary learning. This structure ensures that graduates are well-prepared for actuarial certification and capable of applying quantitative skills in complex business environments.
